World of 100
A global simulation activity for classroom or larger groups
Download the World of 100 activity files.
Thanks to the generosity of CIDAs Global Classroom fund, the GEOEC is pleased to make available the celebrated World of 100 activity, an exciting simulation game in which secondary students learn about the inequities of the world up close, and personal!
The GEOEC wishes to thank Save the Children Canada for their permission to use the concept that was developed by this group approximately two decades ago.
Simply download the two files provided, read through the text, and then deliver the simulation activity - either to several grades of secondary students (ideally, 100), or to your own class. We've provided two sets of numbers to give you some flexibility. And please let us know how you liked it by filling out the enclosed feedback form and sending it to us!
What some Alberta educators have to say about the World of 100, following the April 2005 pilot of the World of 100 at the GEOEC conference:
Helped me appreciate the dire conditions of the world
a great, wonderful resource!
Dave Mussell, Pembina Institute of Development
The World of 100 simulation activity is extremely honest and made me really think about the topics
Id like to do this with my class.
