Teach Your Curriculum Using Environmental Themes

Grade 6

Grade 6 unit plans The GEOEC is pleased to provide the following integrated themes that you can use to teach your curriculum in an environmental context. The documents are provided “as is” in Microsoft Word format to facilitate their use by teachers. These unit plans are living documents – please send your feedback to info@geoec.org.

 

Theme 1 - Environmental Issues

Exploring connections between economy, environment, and society

Curriculum links for this unit:

Science Topic D: Evidence and Investigation
6-8 Apply observation and inference skills to recognize and interpret patterns and to distinguish a specific pattern from a group of similar patterns.

Science Topic E: Trees and Forests
6-10 Describe characteristics of trees and the interaction of trees with other living things in the local environment.

Social Studies Topic A: Local Government
An individual has responsibilities and rights as a citizen, which begin at the local level.

New Social Studies Curriculum
6.1: Citizens Participating in Decision Making

6.1.1 recognize how individuals and governments interact and bring about change within their local and national communities: analyze how individuals, groups and associations within a community impact decision making of local and provincial governments
6.1 Historical Models of Democracy: Ancient Athens and the Iroquois Confederacy
6.2 Value the role of participation by citizens in diverse democratic societies
