Conference 2010 Merit Award Recipients
The GEOEC Award of Merit is presented to member or nonmember individuals or organizations to recognize exemplary teaching, leadership and/or service in the field of global, environmental or outdoor education. The recipients of this years awards were:

High Park School, Stony Plain, Alberta
(Marianne Rogers)
High Park School is involved with Peace Jam and the thousands acts of goodwill. Marianne Rogers has worked with staff and students to build student awareness of global citizenship. Enrolling them into the Peace Jam program has joined them with many other schools in North America. It is a group that links Nobel peace laureates working with youth to create positive change! They have chosen to make positive changes around the climate change issue. They are learning about the issues, connecting with people in the know and each other to move forward.

Paul Bohnert
Paul has made an impact to environmental education in southern Alberta. He is the director of SACEE (Southern Alberta Community of Environmental Educators), which he also was a part of the formation in 2005. This is a vibrant organization that influences environmental education. He participated and planned the Nature in Mind Festival 2008 in Lethbridge. The festival brought together musicians artists, dancers, poets and actors to celebrate and learn about the environment. The next festival will be Oct.10-20, 2010. Distinguished Fellow
Noel Jantzie
Noel has contributed to environmental and global education in this province. He has been an avid member of the GEOEC for many years. He became a president of the council and he also has planned a number of conferences. He was the director for the Creating a Legacy conference in Canmore this year. It was a very successful conference. Noel has worked diligently with the Alberta Teachers' Association (ATA) and has contributed to the wellbeing of teachers in this province. He is a very worthy recipient of this award.
